Historic Albany Foundation Presents
A Community Forum
Endangered Historic Resources: Challenges Faced, Opportunities
Presented
Saturday, 20 May 2006 - 10am to 1pm
First Congregational Church, Albany (corner of Woodlawn & Quail)
Free Parking on Maple Ave behind the church
Historic Albany Foundation invites you to a community discussion on our
2005
Endangered Historic Resources list. Some of these buildings are
long-abandoned landmarks that you pass every day, such as State
Street's
Wellington Row or 755 Madison Avenue. Others, like James Renwick's
Trinity
Church in the Mansion Neighborhood, are hidden gems.
On Saturday, May 20th, you will have an opportunity to learn about
these
buildings: What is their architectural significance? How did they
become
endangered? How have other communities, or our own, found innovative
and
viable solutions for their "white elephant" buildings? What
financial
incentives are available for rehabilitation?
An interdisciplinary panel of experts will be there to lend their
experience
and perspective to the discussion, as well as to answer any questions.
The
panel will include the following:
Duncan Barrett, Chief Operating Officer, Omni Housing Development LLC
George Carpinello, Partner, Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP
Donald Friedman, P.E., Consulting Engineer
Tony Opalka, Historic Preservation Program Analyst, NYS Historic
Preservation Office
Joseph Rabito, Commissioner of Development & Planning, City of Albany
Anders Tomson, Eastern Regional Director, Community Preservation
Corporation
