The New York Court of Appeals is hosting a lecture series, cosponsored by
The Historical Society of the Courts of the State of New York. Kermit
Hall, President of the State University at Albany, a constitutional
historian and the author/editor of many works on the subject, will give
the first lecture. He will focus on the 1960s case, NY Times v Sullivan
(which was the subject of the Anthony Lewis book, "Make No Law"). The
case involved the First Amendment right to free speech and libel judgments
that had the potential to stifle criticism of public officials.
