Newman is a section of the village of Lake Placid.
Between the 1890s and 1930s there was even a post
office named Newman which was a the botton of the hill
only a mile from the Lake Placid post office.

According to a story, the Postmaster General of the
USA at the time was a childhood schoolmate of a local
woman and she suggested that he establish a post
office in the location. Which he did.
