Look for novels by Irving Bacheller, Walter D. Edmonds (Drums along the
Mohawk; you can also use the film of Drums with Henry Fonda as a comparison
tool of literature and film doing history!), Samuel Hopkins Adams ( e.g.
Sunrise to Sunset), Harold Frederic and, of course, J.F. Cooper, among
others. Moderns include William Kennedy, Joyce Carol Oates and others who
have set novels in the state. You might also want to use City of Light, a
recent and very well done novel about Buffalo during the Pan American Expo.
Lots to choose from!
