In 1991 someone discovered a paragraph in a newspaper of Delhi, NY,
containing a challenge signed by 9 men of Hamden, NY, challenging the
men of Delhi to a game of base ball. This was reported in the NYTimes
at the time, and has since be reprinted in Dean A. Sullivan's book
Early Innings. It ought to be possible to learn some details about the
signers of this challenge, such as their ages, and perhaps their social
status, through local records. Does anyone know whether such research
has been done?
