It is with great sadness that I report the passing Dr. Eric Nooter, a well
known New Netherland scholar, at age 50. Dr. Nooter died peaceably home at
5:34 P.M. on Thursday, August 3, 2000, after a courageous battle with brain
cancer. He was known to many of you for a number of excellent exhibitions
he curated on New Netherland in the 1980s, as well as for his doctoral
dissertation, "Between Heaven and Earth: Church and Society in
Pre-Revolutionary Flatbush, Long Island" (Vrije Universiteit, 1994). Eric
leaves his wife Patty Dann and their four-year-old son, Jake, as well as
three sisters in the Netherlands.

Services will be held at Plaza Memorial Chapel, 91st and Amsterdam Avenues,
in New York City, at 9:30 A.M. on Sunday morning, August 6, 2000. Queries
to the chapel may be directed to Andy Rosenthal, director (212) 769-4400.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jacob Perlow Hospice, Beth
Israel Medical Center, First Avenue at 16th Street, New York, NY 10003.

If you wish to send a note of condolence, Patty's address is:

                Patty Dann Nooter
                315 West 86th Street
                Apt. 16D
                New York, New York 10024

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
