I assume that you are considering post November 1674 when New Netherland
once again became New York; otherwise the only towns or communities with
local governments north of New Orange/New York City were
Swanenburgh/Kingston (formerly Wiltwijck/Esopus under Stuyvesant) and
Schenectady, west of Albany. there were rural communties at Catskil,
Claverack, and Kinderhoeck but they did not have local administrations.

About how many towns and/or separate communities existed in the
province of
New York in 1674? Long Island had about six English on the eastern
half and
six Dutch towns west of them. Am unclear about what existed between New
York
City and Albany.

Thanks.
