Per French's Gazeteer of 1861:
Formed from Mohawk on March 12, 1793, as Florida. Area originally known as
Warrenbush, after British admiral Sir Peter Warren, who acquired the land
around 1735. His nephew William Johnson, 21, served as his agent.
Why Florida? French doesn't say.
