Apologies, in advance, for the shameless self promotion.

The Hudson Valley Regional Review recently published a revised chapter from
my dissertation on the diffusion of sole leather tanners through the
Catskills between the 1830s and 1880s. Focusing on the role kinship played
in maintaining capital and craft knowledge, the article explores the
integration strategies employed by one family of tanners as they expanded
from Ulster and Greene counties into Sullivan County and beyond. The
citation is:

Rotenstein, David S. Tanbark Tycoons: Palen Family Sullivan County
Tanneries, 1832-1871. The Hudson Valley Regional Review 15(2):1-42.
