Some public libraries -- such as the Brooklyn Public Library [there are 3
separate library systems in New York City: Brooklyn, New York (covers the
Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island) and Queens Borough] -- allow members to
remotely access their electronic data bases, such as the on-line city
directory that the Library subscribes to. All a library member needs is
his/her library card and access to the Internet.
I would think that many universities/colleges would offer a similar service
to alumni (assuming that they are current with their dues).
