Assistant Project Archivist (nine month, grant funded position)

The New York State Archives is seeking to fill the position of Cultural
Education Specialist (Grade 14 equivalent) for the Archival Advisory
Services Unit. This program unit is responsible for providing advisory
services to historical records repositories in New York State.  The unit
oversees the Documentary Heritage Program.  The position is funded
through the National Historical Publications and Records Commission and
will be funded through September 30, 2006.  The main focus of the
position is working with historical records repositories in New York
State who have received grants from the state's Documentary Heritage
Program.  Duties include the following:

1)	Provide advice and assistance to grant recipients;

2)	Review incoming applications for completeness;

3)	Assist with managing the grant application review process,
including assisting at the review session;

4)	Assist with monitoring funded projects, including providing
advice on proper archival procedure and on reporting requirements;

5)	Assist with ensuring that required project reports are prepared
on time, including contacting grant recipients to ensure project
products are completed and submitted;

6)	Assist with preparing final reports on the project for State
Historical Records Advisory Board (SHRAB) and for the National
Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC);

7)	Survey recent grant recipients for outcomes, satisfaction
levels, and project completeness; and

8)	Provide administrative support in updating project files and
database records.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.	Masters Degree in library science, archival administration,
history or a related field;

2.	One (1) year of archival experience, including major
responsibility for institutional documentation and appraisal
activities;

3.	Demonstrated writing, organizational and public speaking skills;
and

4.	Ability to travel throughout the State.
