1. Author Michael Beschloss to speak at New York State Archives 25th
Anniversary Event

"Presidential Leadership", a lecture by Michael Beschloss
Wednesday, May 7, 2003 - 7 p.m. - The Egg, Empire State Plaza, Albany,
NY

Michael Beschloss has been called by Newsweek "the nation's leading
Presidential historian." His recent book, The Conquerors: Roosevelt,
Truman and the Destruction of Hitler's Germany, 1941-1945, is on the New
York Times Bestseller list.

2. New York Archives - "The Ongoing Fable of Baseball" by Mark McGuire

Americans revere Cooperstown and Abner Doubleday as icons of baseball,
although historical evidence leaves both birthplace and inventor in
doubt.

issue of New York Archives magazine:

3. "Live" on the Web - Find Your Civil War Ancestor

New York contributed more men, money and matériel to the Civil War than
any other state. Finding information about New Yorkers who fought in
the war has now become easier.

4. On-Line Exhibit - Treason in New York

In 1780, near the present-day Tappan Zee Bridge, a major spy drama
unfolded, changing the course of the American Revolution. Major General
Benedict Arnold, believing that he was unrewarded for his military
successes for the Patriot cause, secretly attempted to help the British
capture the fort at West Point.

5. Historical Records Returned to Four Saratoga County Communities

The New York State Archives gave back to Saratoga County, the City of
Saratoga Springs, and the Towns of Clifton Park and Moreau a part of
their history when it returned some of each community's historical
records that were created from 1823-1891.

student research. This statewide competition is open to all New York

students to explore the wealth of historical records in New York State,
and to promote increased cooperation between schools, institutions, and
individuals that administer historical records useful for education.

Awards:
