Re: the discusion of the New York State Newspaper Project.

        Is it in fact the case that the New York State Newspaper Project has
"identified all papers ever published in the State?"
        I would certainly be pleased if this were so. I understood,
however,  from a
conversation I had last fall with a librarian on the project that project
directors/workers do not claim to have identified all
newspapers that had been published in the state nor did they see that
task (that is, making a complete list/bibliogrpahy of new york state
newspapers) as part of their
mandate. rather, their mandate was to microfilm all available copies of
newspapers.
        Can someone provide the definite word on this subject? Has the New
York
State Newspaper project identified all Newspapers published in the state
(up to a certain point in time, of course)?
