Herkimer, N.Y. — The Friends of Historic Herkimer County will submit
an application for a state grant to rehabilitate a historic structure
now that it has approval from the county Legislature.

During a special session of the Legislature on Thursday, the lawmakers
voted unanimously to support a resolution that authorizes the grant
application to the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic
Preservation.

The resolution also authorizes the chairman to issue a letter of
support and to sign a preservation covenant in the event the grant is
awarded.

The Friends are hoping to make repairs to the exterior façade of the
Herkimer County Historic 1834 Jail at the corners of North Main and
Church streets in Herkimer.
