Green-wood Cemetery had not been long established in 1860. I believe the
first burials there were around 1849. About that same time the Archdioces of
Brooklyn was organizing Calvary Cemetery in Woodside, Queens. I've many
relatives in both cemeteries.

Here are some suggestions ....

A woman by the name of Theresa LaBianca is the secretary to the Director of
Green-wood Cemetery .... or at least she was last time I researched there.
Theresa has been at the Green-wood Cemetery for many, many, many, many years
.... and has outlived many of the Cemetery Directors. I've found her to be
extraordinarily helpful and knowledgable, when approached from the right
direction. She's WONDERFUL ! TREAT HER NICE ! Her telephone number is
718-768-7300. The cemetery's main office is at the main gate 5th Avenue at
25th Street, Brooklyn, New York 11232.

The Green-Wood also has a historical society. I'm sure Theresa could put you
in touch with them.

Calvary Cemetery in Woodside is now operated by the Dioseces of New York.
The offices for all four Calvary Cemeteries are located at 4902 Laurel Hill
Blvd., Woodside, New York 11377. There telephone number is 718-786-8000.

I strongly suspect that the Dioseces has a historian although I wouldn't know
where they might be located. Something tells me however, it might be at St.
Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale where I believe all the New York City area
Catholic Cemeteries have their administrative headquarters.
