One book that deals with the early history of the prison is "Life in
Sing-Sing State Prison" by Rev. John Luckey, published by N. Tibbals & Co.,
N.Y., 1860. Luckey had served as the prison chaplain. Manuscript material
relative to the creation, construction and early operations of the prison can
be found in the NYS Library, and the State Archives.
