A General Index for volumes 1-10 of NYCD is found in Volume 11, published
in 1861.

Later volumes, compiled by other editors, primarily Bethold Fernow, were
added over many years, and in essence, this project still continues with
the work of the New Netherlands Project ...

Since I don't have access to the later volumes of NYCD I do not know what
sort of index is available for them, nor do I know if the CD is searchable.

There is a volume index for each of the 4 vol.s in DHNY.
