On the APHNYS website, on the links page I put a link to David Rumsey's Map Collection website.  It is under the heading of Maps & Location Finders

 It has 19th and 20th century maps you can look at on line, even print.  I have plotted out what turned out to be a land patent and found it on this web site on a NY map.  It was a map by Simeon DeWitt.  You can zoom in and move around your map. Very handy site.
