Syracuse University Press has just published an interesting new book
entitled "The Forestport Breaks: A 19th Century Conspiracy Along the Black
River Canal." Featuring a young Teddy Roosevelt, Pinkerton National
Detective Agency operatives and a colorful cast of Upstate politicians, I
think this story of corruption and criminal plotting along the Erie Canal
system would appeal to New York history fans. More information is at
www.syracuseuniversitypress.syr.edu
But then, I'm not a neutral observer. I wrote the book!
