The term seminary was most often used to designate an educational
institution which offered what we would now classify as secondary
curriculum in the mid 19th century. Seminary and academy usually
referred to similar institutions. After 1852 a number of these
schools were incorporated in union school districts as the high
schools in the free public system. You might check to see if
Whitestown went the route of establishing a union school district.
If so, the seminary may well have become the high school.
