Depedns on what "signs" and depends on the year.

Ice melting and going out of the streams: as early as mid-March and as late as late April.

Robins arriving: ?

Buds and leaves: March-May also, depending on the type of winter.

Maple sap: As early as late February and as late as early April, depending on the year and whether your farm faces south.

In other words, no fixed date.

I know this doesn't exactly pertain to NY history, but when do the
signs of spring start to appear? (It's going into a story set around
the turn of the century...)
