A nice discussion of bateaux, along with photographs and drawings,
can be found in Ships and Shipwrecks of the Americas, edited by
George Bass (Thames and Hudson, 1988), pages 130-138.  Most of the
vessels described here by Kevin Crisman date to the late eighteenth
century, but it has several leads for tracking down plans (drawn for
building replicas).
