Following up on a genealogical query (yuck) I realized that I know very
little about the Chautauqua that came to town every summer for many years
(1914+). Most of my sources have info on 19tyh century meetings, and such,
so I haven't satisfied my curiosity.
I found a web page describing a grant awareded by LoC to the University of
Iowa to study the mid-west Redpath Chautauqua "During its heyday in the
1920s, Chautauqua performers appeared in 10,000 cities before some
40,000,000 people." (http://rs6.loc.gov/ammem/award/98award/iowa.html),
also one about William Sadler, a popular lecturer
(http://www.geocities.com/~nduval/18_TCTHA.htm), but that is it for the all
powerful WEB.
Where can I send my correspondent (and myself) to learn more about the
Redpath Chautauqua? Can someone boil down a context statement or
description of their goals and purpose, when did they start / end, how
widespread ... Perhs where primary sources (like those at U of Iowa) can
be found for the NY circuits?
Thanks
Dan W.

Chautauqua!])
