At the opening of the Croton Aqueduct in 1842, engineer John B. Jervis and
others rode a 16 foot skiff through the new aqueduct chamber to the Harlem
River. Some accounts indicate they gave the skiff to the Fire Department,
but I cannot find further reference to it.
Has any other list subscriber come across the actual Croton Maid - or
specific references to its survival after 1842?
