The following corrects the eMail, "Origin of the term Yankee?" relayed to the
list on 06/30/2000 (3:04:16 PM EDT) wherein I passed along a posting from a
3rd party as to the derivation of "Yankee".
This 3rd party corrects himself:
Please send my apologies to your list ... I mis-named the British King of the
Revolutionary conflict ... as any casual scholar would know ... he was
"George III" ... not William III.
George III descends from William of Orange who married a British Protestant
(Stuart?) named Mary who had some claim to the British throne after Charles
II was overthrown (pun intended); for having his son and heir baptized Roman
Catholic.
