Two books by a Jefferson County author: Delavan Miller, "Drum
Taps in Dixie" and "A Drum's
Story and Other Tales". Delavan wrote his books about his years as a
drummer boy in the Civil War. The
National Museum of the Civil War Soldier at Petersburg, VA features
Delavan's life as a drummer boy from the North.
The 4 River Valleys Historical Society, PO Box 524, Carthage, NY
13619, has reprints for sale of both of Delavan's
books. I would be glad to loan you my copies of these two books .
The " Carthage Republican Tribune" on Feb. 21, 2002 printed an
entire page about Delavan's life which included
his picture as the 13 year-old drummer boy.
If you e-mail your address, I will mail you this article
pronto. Suzanne C. Wiley, Town of Champion Historian
