Just in case Ian McGiver has not consulted the following books, I
strongly recommend them not just for their content but also their lists
of sources (and each makes a good read):

SOBEL, Mechal: Trabelin' On, The slave journey to an Afro-Baptist faith.
1st edn. 1979, Westport, CT; Greenwood Press: contains appendices giving
details of Baptist churches. 2nd edn. 1988, Princeton NJ,
Princeton UP: omits the appendices of the 1st edition.

FREY, Sylvia R: Water from the rock, Black resistance in a revolutionary
age. 1991, Oxford, Princeton UP.
