Re the NYC Dept. of Buildlings - they keep the building permit
application in the Job Folder. The actual building permit is printed out
and given to the applicant for posting on the building. The Job Folder
is a permanent record, which is microfilmed after sign-off. The paper is
retained for 2 years, then destroyed; the original microfilm is retained
permanently - the archival microfilm is stored off-site in an
appropriate records storage faciilty; the duplicate microfilm is used
for reference purposes.
