It is a beautiful book but it doesn't have a bibliography so one can't check facts. I know the online version has had errors in subject areas I have previously researched.

I am writing a review essay of Web sites dealing with the history of
Long Island. The most conspicuous of these sites is Newsday's Long Island:
Our Story (www.lihistory.com), which is based on a series of articles and a
book with the same name. Although Newsday's Long Island history project is
well known and seems to have been generally well received, I have not been
able to locate any published reviews. I have a number of reservations
about this project as a resource for historical research and teaching, and
am wondering if anyone else has looked at it from this angle.
