Butterfield 8 was a New York City telephone exchange in the days before
everything became numbers. I believe it was for the East 60s, though I no
longer remember. Other such exchanges were Murray Hill, Sutton, Oregon
[Chelsea], etc., etc. One use to be able to know where an address was in
the city by the telephone exchange.
