"Life on the Edge: The Dutch-American Farmhouse in New York"

Three centuries of Dutch-American farm-life were swept away
by the rapid urbanization of New York's outer boroughs in the
early twentieth century. Today, fewer than thirty Dutch-American
farmhouses are left within New York City. Join archaeologists,
historians, curators and museum professionals for a conference
examining the rich legacy of the diverse peoples of the Dutch-
American farm.

Some of the participants and scheduled topics include:

Dr. David Cohen  the Dutch-American farm;
Dr. Firth Fabend  the role of women on the Dutch-American farm;
Dr. Graham Hodges  the role of enslaved African-Americans on the
Dutch-American farm;
Geoffrey Gross  architecture of the Dutch-American farm;
Dr. H. Arthur Bankoff and Christopher Ricciardi, M.A.  archaeology
of Brooklyn Dutch farms

Discussions on the state of the various Dutch-American farmhouses
within the Historic House Trust of New York City will also be
included in the program.

The event is free and open to the general public.
