Yes. See the New York Times of October 24, 1983, for "Recreating 'The Age
of Innocence' in Brick and Paint" for a description of visually creating
some of the settings of the film. The one example that's particularly
germaine to this thread is the fictional Manson Mingott House. It was
actually the RPI Pi Kappa Phi fraternity in Troy. The filmmakers added a
matte painting to place the building in the middle of a swampy, deserted
uptown 1870s Manhattan location.
