Hello list members,

I have just run across references in newspapers of the day to
 "Assizes of
Bread" setting the price
for bread in the village of Catskill and in Albany (city) circa 1806-08.
Can anyone tell me how long such Assizes persisted in these towns.
Were these practices (which in Catskill were established by an "act of
incorportion")
carried to newer villages that were then being settled in Western New
York?
Was the practice of bread assizes limited to villages and cities?
Can anyone recommend a good history.

Thanks,
Ian McGiver
