Thanks so much for the response.  And of course the dates make my question
appear unclear, as it was.  I was referring to influence supposedly exerted
prior to the outbreak of war...  Which, considering Arnold's record before
1780, made the thing look so unlikely to me.  The idea that it was CC Jr.
makes a great deal more sense.  I will check the source you cite.  Thanks
