There is an entry on  Simeon DeWitt (1784-1834) in the Dictionary of
American Biography-- I didn't check the new American National Biography to
see if he was there as well.

Stawberry Island is in the Niagara River near Buffalo, a bit downriver
from where the Black Rock ferry used to run.
