Hi List:

I recently acquired an early Almanac, the 1818 _Beers' Western Calendar;
or, Southwick's Almanack ..._ published by C. Southwick in Auburn, NY. I
have been having a tough time finding info on these early publications.

I found that Andrew Beers was a prominent NY mathamatician and supplied
many almanacs with tables and information, but I find no reference to
Southwick.

Being out of state I have been unable to find any NY-specific publications
except Blake McKelvey's 1941 "Early Almanacs of Rochester" in the January
1941 _Rochester History_.

McKelvey notes that the first almanac in Rochester appeared in 1820, but I
have not found much info on other upstate communities in my research.

Milton W. Hamilton treated the upstate newspapers well in his 1936 _The
Country Printer, New York State, 1785-1830, and he mentions the Almanac
that I have, but he has only a paragraph (pages 79-80) in his 249 pages of
text.

Is there any good available source on New York Almanacs?

I have a checklist of the Cazenovia, NY Almanacs (and other books) on my
web pages:
