I highly recommend "TIN HORNS AND CALICO" subtitled "A Decisive Episode in
the Emergence of Democracy"
by Henry Christman, originally published in 1945 and should be available in
many librarys. Covers the anti-rent
movement on both sides of the Hudson River and, at least to me, explains
some of why New York is culturally and
politically different from other parts of the northeast.
