Rising like Phoenix from the ashes!

Rejuvenation of the IROQUOIS listserve is begun!

The old IROQUOIS list is going to try to get off to a new start. It is
hoped that this widely desired discussion list, which has been relegated to
oblivion for the past several years, can get back on its feet and become a
scholarly, educational, informative, and fun forum for Iroquoianists around
the world!

All are invited to join in the discussions about all themes Iroquoian:
northeast prehistory and history, Five Nations and Huron, land claims and
settlement patterns, pottery and pipes, trade and intercourse, language and
music, archaeology and ethnology ... . The bounds are endless (as those of
us who love the subject well know)!.

The list is still owned by the listserver at the University of Toronto and
supervised by Dr. Carrie Dyck of the Department of Linguistics, Memorial
University of Newfoundland. Access can be made at the same old addresses,
and the archive for the early ‘90s is still to be found.

Just a note ...

Having died a gruesome death a few years ago (the list, not me), it is
hoped that courtesy, self- restraint, and civility will be the rule of the
day and that the list will continue for many years to come. Discussions of
all manner will be welcomed but in the event subscribers feel that things
are getting "out of hand" (repeated personal attacks, use of the list for
off-topic personal correspondence, or other such annoyances) all are
invited to speak their peace without fear of reprisal so that the matter of
the list service can be kept on track. Peer pressure is a wonderful tool
if it is put to use in the appropriate circumstances.

(I am in no way connected to the operations of this list. I am an
Iroquoianist who very much would like a forum through which I can keep up
with the latest research, events, and ideas. I make this statement as I
know how easy it is for these things to get out of hand and I because such
self indulgent behavior is what ruined the list the first time.)
