RE: Chris Gray's personal quandary - where was Henry Clay Frick's garage
(in NYC)?

Chris:

I have been interested in the architecture of John Russell Pope who built
our City Hall in Plattsburgh. He also was connected to H.C. Frick:

The former residence of Frick (1849-1919) was located at 1 east 70th St in
NYC. The residence was originally designed by Thomas Hastings. In 1931,
the Trustees of the Frick Collection requested changes and additions to the
residence and a new 13-story structure to adjoin the residence buildings -
these tasks were accomplished by J. R. Pope. Prior to Pope's involvement
and after Frick's death in 1919, the Frick collection was first housed in
what was the bowling alley in the basement of the family residence; then
moved to a small building across the driveway from it - can we assume that
the "small building" was the garage?

Good luck in your search !

Keith
