It being African-American history month, in relation to that - a couple posts about a former resident and native of Schaghticoke and Lansingburgh in Rensselaer County, later of NYC:

Albert F. Mando (1846-1912) African-American composer, conductor, and instructor of music

Prof. Albert F. Mando and his visits to Washington, D.C.

I hope to visit his grave soon and to take a photo. One of his obituaries indicates he was buried in Schaghticoke, and http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nyrensse/cemm3.txt indicates it was at the “Methodist Church” Cemetery. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nyrensse/schagcem.htm indicates that’s located “On the east side of route 40, south of the village, opposite Hansen Road.” If the Rensselaer County Cemetery Database has all the headstones there transcribed, there was maybe only about fifty or so burials there. Most dates seem to have been from the 1820s, with a scattering across the 1830s-1870s, and maybe only a few thereafter. Albert F. Mando might have been the only burial after the 1890s. I’m going to have to check with the town, because Google Satellite and Google Street View both appear to indicate there’s just fairly thick woods there, with no sign of even an old driveway or fence: [log in to unmask],-73.6055723,17z" target="_blank">https:[log in to unmask],-73.6055723,17z
