Dear Nancy,

By the 1670s, ships bound from New York City left from several English
ports. In 1681, for example, I've found 13 ships leaving for NYC: 8
from London, 2 from Cowes, 1 from Dover, 2 from Dartmouth-Exeter. These
numbers obviously fluctuated, especially during wartime. This does not
necessarily mean they were traveling with English goods however. Many
arrived (and returned to) from Amsterdam and Rotterdam, as well as other
European ports; vessels stopped at English ports in accordance with the
Navigation Acts.
Hope this helps.

Dennis Maika

From which English port in the 17th century did most/all ships sail for
NYC?
Liverpool? London? Other?
